Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty is a very delicate procedure that needs a lot of experience to perform. It is a surgery of millimeters, where every millimeter counts. Rhinoplasty is a surgery of great finesse and it takes years to master.
Dr. Halaseh has an extensive experience with this kind of surgery where he has performed more than 3,000 procedures during his practice.

There are 2 approaches to perform Rhinoplasty:

- Closed Approach: where all the incisions are done inside the nose with no external scars.
This is the old approach practiced by surgeons in the seventies and eighties but started to go out of fashion in the nineties.

- Open Approach: where a small cut is made transversely in the columella which usually leaves a very minimal scar which is hardly noticeable by the patient.

- Dr. Halaseh usually uses the open approach which gives a better view of the surgical field and that makes it easier to correct the nasal tip problems.
He reserves the closed approach for patients with a nice tip or tips which need minor changes.

Pre-Operative Consultation

- Thorough history is taken from the patient, including history of any breathing difficulties, any nasal allergies, history of previous surgery on the nose.
- Thorough examination of the nose is done, including the shape, any deformities and the presence of septal deviation, polyps, sinusitis… etc.

- Photos of the nose in different angles are taken.
The shape of the new nose will be discussed thoroughly with the patient, trying to understand the patient's demands and also advise the patient on what nose shape will suit her/him best, so it can be agreed on the final nose shape.

Procedure

The operation is done under general anaesthesia.

It takes 1.5 hour to perform. The patient has to wear a nasal splint for one week.

There will be bruises around the nose and under the eyes which last 10 - 14 days.

Splint and external stitches are removed after one week.

The nose will still be swollen after one week. The swelling will subside gradually giving a nice result at 3 weeks but for the nose to take its final shape it needs about 6 months.

Revision Rhinoplasty (Secondary Rhinoplasty)

Some patients visit Dr. Halaseh because they are not satisfied with the surgical result of their nose performed by another surgeon. The problem can be a minor one and can be corrected by a simple procedure or it can be a major problem and needs full revision and probably using cartilages from other parts of the body e.g. Ear or Rib.

Non Surgical Rhinoplasty

This is a new trend where fillers can be used to hide a hump or lift the tip of the nose, or fill depressions in the nose or correct a minor deviation of the nose.
Botox can also be used to raise the tip of the nose.
All these procedures are temporary and last 6 - 12 months.
